Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson Unify: WeCanSolveIt.org

While watching the guilty pleasureful promising new show "Lipstick Jungle" for free streaming online at Hulu.com, which is super boss if you haven't yet checked it out, we GSpotted the most stricking commercial. Pat Robertson and Al Sharpton sitting on a couch and advocating for We Can Solve It.

Just because they could get these two very different dudes on a couch and agree on something, we checked out WeCanSolveIt.org. This is part of Al Gore's a nonprofit, nonpartisan Alliance For Climate Protection to address the climate change.

Between Pat and Al, and other action based efforts like links to green collar jobs initiatives, We Can Solve It is a bomb website.

We GSpotted SomeoneSpoilMe.com for the green Mother's Day gifts, and this Noon Logan Satchel is another example of good green stuff coming from their area of the cyberspace retail neighborhood.

V-Co.Logical bamboo socks from Volcom

Good thing our GSpotting Father Hank, and GSpotting Stepfather Rick both like socks for any and all presents. That's why we are going to get them Volcom's V.Co-Logical socks made from mostly bamboo.

All Eyes On Dubai: First Green School In The Middle East

Pac would totally have been green

In 1996 2Pac released a other-worldly good 2 disc album called "All Eyez On Me". Because he is in Machiavelli hiding and not producing records (not dead, folks. You know I'm right), all eyes have got to be on something else. How about Dubai?

Not the green school, but hello Dubai: seriously?
People have been keeping an eye on Dubai and all its bizarre architectural and cultural whirlwind activities for years, but now we have a reason to be GSpotting that ish: they are leading the green school movement in the Middle East.
Sadru Damji of the Taaleem, which runs the schools

It's not to hard to lead, to be fair, as this will be the first green school in the region, but they've go to start somewhere.

In the fall of 2009, the Dubai British School and the Uptown School will have healthier facilities that are LEED silver certified for K-12 students.

Bette Midler, Teresa Heinz, And Sigourney Weaver Dig The Earth Mother

From left, Prez of Audubon Society John Flicker, Teresa Heinz, Bette Midler (loved you in Beaches, sistah), Sigourney Weaver, and Former Head of the EPA Carole Browner.

"New York has no personal pride. It's the Courtney Love of cities. But it's changing and needs more gardens and urban green spaces." These are the words of the Rachel Carson Award winning Bette Midler for her work with New York Restoration Project. An equally amazing woman, Teresa Heinz, won an award too, and the whole shebang was hosted by Sigourney Weaver.
Jurlique CEO Eli Halliwell (Jurlique was an event sponsor and gave out FANTASTIC rose hand cream) and Sigourney Weaver

Peep the article we G Spotted for Ecorazzi.com about the star-studded Audubon Women in Conservation Luncheon to honor the Rachel Carson Award winners this Tuesday, May 20th at the Plaza Hotel. Power-house women, if there ever were any.

Don't Tell Mom ... Greening Mother's Day

Organic Mom's Day Cookies
Organic Blue Iris (is Irisses the plural of Iris)
LinkOrganic Asiatic Lilies

Don't tell our GSpotting mom way down in in North Cackalacka (Tarheel home-state, Holla Back), that we have no present for mother's day. S**t, Mother's Day is on Sunday and it takes at least 3-5 business days to ship. No worries because just as every mom wants to feel special on her day, there are some great green options at the aptly titled website, SomeoneSpoilMe.com.
But truth be told, we already know what GSpotting mom Laurie really wants: flowers. Perhaps she'd even prefer them delivered to her office so that her co-workers could enviously look on and only dream of having kids as thoughtful as hers. But we digress... Organic Bouquet has fabulous flower arrangements that are both beautiful and Veriflora Certified. This certification means that all of the plants and flowers have been grown in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible way. Some of the organic bouquets even have USDA certified organic chocolates thrown in the arrangement, which momma L will go wild for!

The Bride Wears White, The Wedding Wears Green

The weather is getting lovelier by the day, and that can only mean one thing for us NYCity dwelling GSpotters... wedding photo-ops in Central Park! We love to walk all around the park and see bridal parties taking engagement and wedding photos in all their pre- marital glory. Not to mention the gowns!!

Look at these exquiste eco bridal gowns from Deborah Lindquist.

For a bride and groom who have everything, check the bridal registry at Changing the Present for an alternative to the played-out-blender wedding gift.

And Great Green Wedding and PortOvert are always two great sites for planning sustainable and gorgeous wedding.

Canadians Will Wear Eco-Uniforms at the Beijing Olympics

According to EcoTextileNews, all the Canadian athletes will be outfitted in sustainable uniforms for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Depending on the sport, uniforms will be made from organic cotton, bamboo, and Cocona (made from coconut waste!) which naturally provides UV protection, stretch, odor resistance, and wicking and cooling properties, all found naturally in these sustainable fibers.

“The collection is eco-friendly and was designed with athletes’ input to ensure the Canadian team has ideal clothing to excel in Beijing‘s hot summer temperatures,” said a statement from the Hudson Bay Company, which is outfitting the Olympic team. Replica jerseys will be available through the Hudson Bay Company for Canuk fans, too.

Major shout out to Canada and the Hudson Bay Company for their sustainable fashion vision and pragmatic leadership. Plus, we've got to check out more about this
Cocona fabric. I mean, holy cow it seems a green-minded athlete's dream fiber!

Lily van der Woodsen (Mom From Gossip Girl) Is Green, Too.

Kelly Rutherford aka Lily van der Woodsen

Gossip Girl, aka the apple of our eyes, has a green gal in the cast. Actress Kelly Rutherford plays Serena's hot mom Lily van der Woodsen on this amazing TV show. But unlike like her character who probably could care less about energy efficiency and environmental activism, Kelly shows love for new micro mini CFLs (compact flourescent lightbulbs) from Sylvania.

If each American household switched a traditional bulb for one of these babies, the offset CO2 emissions would be equivalent to taking 1 million cars off the road. What's more, these Energy Star rated bulbs last 11 years.

Way to go, Lily van der Woodsen. Even if you aren't going to follow your heart back to Dan's dad, Rufus (Oh, watch the show for Pete's sake.)

Project Earth Day, Here We Come

The GSpotters are off to Project Earth Day in downtown, NYC to see what they can see. Hopefully that will be badass fashion, up and coming designers, US Green Building Council members (they are co-sponsoring the event and are mad cool and smart people) and delicious cocktails!

Gotta love Earth Week... It's like Oscar Week for the eco community.

Loomstate and Sundance Party at Barney's: One Too Many Organic Cocktails?

For Earth Day yesterday, unfortunately we didn't plant trees. Instead, we partied.

Rogan Gregory
, head designer of Loomstate, collaborated yesterda with the Sundance Channel and Barney's (where both his Rogan and Loomstate collections are sold) to celebrate his Target collection and Earth Day.

Best Earth Day ever! Picture the scene: Barney's 8th floor lit up (hopefuly LED bulbs) in pink, organic Vodka 360 cocktails (the official spirit of the Sundance Film Festival this year), Kate Nash rocking hard(so small yet mighty-voiced), great food, and tons of celebs. Not only was green hunk Josh Dorfman there in a fashionable Nau get-up, we also G Spotted Tracee Ellis Ross from our second favorite CW channel show, Girlfriends. Gossip Girl will forever and always be number one!

This GSpotter, outfitted in a black Beau Soliel halter dress, was impressed with the whole vibe, through and through. Local organic hors devours, great music, beautiful people giving a s**t; what could be more perfect? Perhaps when I went up to the man of the hour, Mr. Rogan Gregory and shaking his hand saying, "What you are doing with Target is so awesome, man. Really, dude. You are so important to this whole... thing!" *One too many organic cocktails, young GSpotter.

*The same thing happened when we met Mos Def in the East Village, but that is another story for another blog entry...

Teen Eco Ambassadors From The Weather Channel

Aspiring Young Climate Expert

Forecast Earth held a climate conference in early December and invited teenage Eco Ambassadors from around the country to attend. Forecast Earth is the Weather Channel's green arm replete with a blog, green lifestyle articles, and videos.
Charles S Ferrer

From the teen ambassadors' profiles, there are a few earth advocates and rising environmentalist, but also just some plain ol' weather junkies. For instance, this student, Charles S Ferrer from NJ attends weather conferences, provides storm reports to the local newspaper, and is being certified with the National Weather Service as an Advance SKYWARN spotter.

As a child, this G Spotter's dear friend and neighbor Dana would endlessly watch hours of the Weather Channel with her dad Howie. It's great to see kids breaking through the reality TV lull and apathy most folks associate their generation with, and taking a stand on one of the biggest challenges our earth has ever faced. It is also just great to see young weather-aholics are still on the prowl to track (and one day curb) extreme weather events.

Fashion Week Daily: Target to Carry Green Fashion

If Vogue is the mother of fashion magazines reminding you to do your homework, then Fashion Week Daily is that cool older cousin who comes through on the clutch to buy you and your friends alcohol (shout out Nola W for keeping us all in the know).

Bearing that quasi successful metaphor in mind, our cool older cousin is reporting that Rogan Gregory, demigod designer for Edun, Loomstate, and eponymous label Rogan, will be feting his latest collection for Target, to be pre-released at Barneys next Tuesday night.

Green goes mainstream when it is available at Target, that is for sure. But pre-released at Barneys? Fear not, G Spotting will be at the release party to see what that is all about.

Teens For Safe Cosmetics Turning Green Fashon Show

Tomorrow night, Friday April 4th's Turning Green event co-sponsored by Teens for Safe Cosmetics and Whole Foods should be a real smash. Not only will it feature highly motivated and enthusiastic eco-teens, sustainable fashion by the HOTTEST green designers in the biz, but the looks were co-styled with panache by G Spotter, Margaret.

Eco-Hip Hop? HOT 97 Goes Green!

We don't know how this escaped the radar for so long, but our favorite hip hop radio station in NYC, Hot 97 has a huge Green Initiative! This is unbelievably exciting considering Hot 97 has the best DJs in NYC, plays the best in contemporary and throw back mainstream hip hop and R&B music, and now they are putting on all their listeners to green tips and ideas.

Some of their initiatives included an event on March 20th partnering with TerraCycle, where a FREE iTunes downloads for every 4 vinyl records or 8 CDs turned in, instead of thrown out. TerraCyle is one of our favorite home-grown worm poop to fertilizer companies based in Trenton New Jersey founded by a couple of friends from Princeton who dropped out to make this super-sustainable poop product that is now sold in Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and other gardening heavy hitters.

They also have info about recycling in NYC, public transportation innovation, and clips from the Live Earth concerts.

Energy Star: Change A Light, Change Your Life

Starting this Earth Day, April 22nd, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will ask consumers to do a little bit more than “change a light” to fight global warming, when it launches the year-long “Change the World: Start with ENERGY STAR” campaign. The campaign’s cornerstone will be the new ENERGY STAR Pledge, which also launches on Earth Day at www.energystar.gov.

So far, the successful ENERGY STAR Change a Light campaign has inspired more than a million Americans to pledge to switch to energy-efficient CFLs and helped boost market share for CFLs to over 20% nationally. Check out the website to see how your state is doing in the pledge to collectively convert from energy sucking light bulbs to energy saving compact fluorescent light bulbs.
