Alicia Keys Shows Sustainable High Schools Love

Alicia Keys and students

Alicia Keys
was in New Orleans yesterday, to honor students' environmental achievement at the Frederick A. Douglass High School.

Project Green House

When talking about sustainable urban renewal and New Orleans, I personally think of The Green Project. The Green Project operates a warehouse store that resells high-quality, salvaged building materials at low cost to the community. The store is dedicated to helping the environment by reducing the amount of usable materials placed in landfills or disposed of improperly.

Kudos to Alicia, the Green Project, and Zydeco music.

Perez Hilton Loves The Green, TOO!

Perez Hilton

Only because I check it like 3 times a day, I must shout out the self procalimed "biggest bitch in media" Perez Hilton for his article about confronting the climate challenge.

WeCanSolveIt.org is a network of over a million people pledging to work to find viable energy and climate change solutions.

Muy bien hecho, Perez.

Bette Midler, Teresa Heinz, And Sigourney Weaver Dig The Earth Mother

From left, Prez of Audubon Society John Flicker, Teresa Heinz, Bette Midler (loved you in Beaches, sistah), Sigourney Weaver, and Former Head of the EPA Carole Browner.

"New York has no personal pride. It's the Courtney Love of cities. But it's changing and needs more gardens and urban green spaces." These are the words of the Rachel Carson Award winning Bette Midler for her work with New York Restoration Project. An equally amazing woman, Teresa Heinz, won an award too, and the whole shebang was hosted by Sigourney Weaver.

Peep the article we G Spotted for Ecorazzi.com about the star-studded Audubon Women in Conservation Luncheon to honor the Rachel Carson Award winners this Tuesday, May 20th at the Plaza Hotel. Power-house women, if there ever were any.

A Tribute To Adrian Grenier

Adrian with his Alter Eco crew Angela Lindvall, Boise Thomas and Darren Moore

It's official, I'm completely enamored by Adrian Grenier. Not just his sensitive love-me eyes, or moppy 'I could careless' hair, or even his perma-calm that both Entourage character Vincent Chase, and he himself sassily exude; although all those things are great.

Adrian Grenier is just so fire

No, I love Adrian Grenier because he loves his Mother Earth. And just in case I didn't love her enough before, his love makes me want to love that much harder. To show his love and cute face for adoring fans like me all across the US, Adrian and three friends are working on a show for Discovery Green called Alter Eco where they peruse LA doing all things green.

Even in spandex for Halloween, the boy's got it

Two of my favorite hip hop emcees, Murs and Slug from Atmosphere, came together a few years ago to create an album entitled, "A Tribute To Christina Ricci." And in that vein, I would like to announce that when and if my first record drops, it will be entitled, "A Tribute To Adrian Grenier."

Lily van der Woodsen (Mom From Gossip Girl) Is Green, Too.

Kelly Rutherford aka Lily van der Woodsen

Gossip Girl, aka the apple of our eyes, has a green gal in the cast. Actress Kelly Rutherford plays Serena's hot mom Lily van der Woodsen on this amazing TV show. But unlike like her character who probably could care less about energy efficiency and environmental activism, Kelly shows love for new micro mini CFLs (compact flourescent lightbulbs) from Sylvania.

If each American household switched a traditional bulb for one of these babies, the offset CO2 emissions would be equivalent to taking 1 million cars off the road. What's more, these Energy Star rated bulbs last 11 years.

Way to go, Lily van der Woodsen. Even if you aren't going to follow your heart back to Dan's dad, Rufus (Oh, watch the show for Pete's sake.)

Gossip Girl Goes Green? OMG That Would Rock!

Gossip Girls Serena "S" and Blair "B"

It is official, Gossip Girl, is the most amazing show ever. This beautifully written New York Magazine article proves it, once and for all.

If only the show's stylist Eric Daman, formerly an assistant stylist for Sex and the City, would call us G Spotters to do some eco-fashion consulting for Blair, Serena, Dan (so dreamy) and the gang. We'd trick S out in a sparkly yet bohemian Elsom Sequin Kimono Dress and an Emily Katz Recycled Denim "Perfect" Trench and then put B in an edgy yet classic Julia Smith bronze "Grace Couture" strapless dress.

Loomstate and Sundance Party at Barney's: One Too Many Organic Cocktails?

For Earth Day yesterday, unfortunately we didn't plant trees. Instead, we partied.

Rogan Gregory
, head designer of Loomstate, collaborated yesterda with the Sundance Channel and Barney's (where both his Rogan and Loomstate collections are sold) to celebrate his Target collection and Earth Day.

Best Earth Day ever! Picture the scene: Barney's 8th floor lit up (hopefuly LED bulbs) in pink, organic Vodka 360 cocktails (the official spirit of the Sundance Film Festival this year), Kate Nash rocking hard(so small yet mighty-voiced), great food, and tons of celebs. Not only was green hunk Josh Dorfman there in a fashionable Nau get-up, we also G Spotted Tracee Ellis Ross from our second favorite CW channel show, Girlfriends. Gossip Girl will forever and always be number one!

This GSpotter, outfitted in a black Beau Soliel halter dress, was impressed with the whole vibe, through and through. Local organic hors devours, great music, beautiful people giving a s**t; what could be more perfect? Perhaps when I went up to the man of the hour, Mr. Rogan Gregory and shaking his hand saying, "What you are doing with Target is so awesome, man. Really, dude. You are so important to this whole... thing!" *One too many organic cocktails, young GSpotter.

*The same thing happened when we met Mos Def in the East Village, but that is another story for another blog entry...

Jenna Jameson Covered In Oil

In what is becoming the hottest trend for Hollywood vixens, Jenna Jameson joins the list of PETA pin-up activistas which includes women like Ms Dita Von Teese, Pamela Anderson, and Eva Mendes. Personally, I love the the eye candy photos cum substantive food for thought that sparks interest in animal love. These women seem passionate about our mammalian cousins, and I dig that, but this skivvy clad Jenna Jameson pleather ad has got me to thinking.

Pleather is made from either polyvinyl chloride (most often referred to as PVC) or polyurethane. Both of these petroleum based materials release crazy dioxins during the production phase as well as "organic pollutants", a delicious oxymoron, indeed. What's more, the process of producing a pound of PVC releases CO2 emissions equal to burning a gallon of gas.* The vinyl industry argues that chemical tanning for leather uses carcinogenic hexavalent chromium, which is clearly a sucky alternative, and so at least with pleather the animal's life is spared.

So the debate continues between pleather, leather, and public indecency/going nudey for the cause. Choosing between the latter and the first option, Ms Jameson, who has lost a great deal of weight in the past years (please Jenna, go back to your fighting weight, i.e. porn weight, for all of us thick girls) picks pleather for her PETA photo. But certain questions still persist: Are these vixens vegetarian, as they stand victoriously in front of the PETA banner? Is activism the new spotlight grabber, instead of a sex tape leaked onto the internet ? And most importantly, who heads PETA's PR department because surely they deserve a monster raise.

*Check out this great Slate.com article to read more about pleather.
